Teacher Development Special Interest Group (TD SIG) & JALT Hokkaido Teacher Journeys 2026 Conference

      Hakodate University

      Sunday, 23 August 2026 (tentative schedule: 10:00–16:00).

This year, our plenary speaker is Dr. Gregory Hadley, professor at Niigata University and Visiting Fellow at Oxford University. He has spoken at numerous conferences both in Japan as well as abroad elucidating empirical investigations to improve learning approaches, such as Extensive Reading. With his research in Grounded Theory Methodology, participants of this conference will have the opportunity to examine means of conducting research in meaningful and practical ways within teaching contexts.

Why not share your teacher development journey in one of Hokkaido’s most vibrant and historic cities?

We warmly invite presentations that explore teacher growth, reflective practice, professional learning, classroom innovation, research, and the many paths educators take throughout their careers. Whether you are an experienced researcher, classroom practitioner, or new teacher with a story to tell, we encourage you to submit a proposal.

To make the most of the event, a networking dinner is planned for the evening of Saturday, 22 August. Why not arrive a little earlier and enjoy everything Hakodate has to offer? From its famous morning market and fresh seafood, Lucky Pierrot hamburgers and Hasegawa store yakitori bento..... to its historic streets, stunning waterfront, and spectacular night views from Mount Hakodate, the city provides the perfect backdrop for professional exchange and networking connections.

Join us for a day of learning, discussion, and inspiration as we explore the journeys that shape us as educators.

We look forward to receiving your submission.

      Call for Proposals here!
